Radio Altimeter

From SKYbrary Wiki

Until quite recently, few operators' procedures included proactive use of the radio altimeter despite it's obvious 'early warning' capability for unintended terrain proximity. PNF calls of 'rad alt live' on approach have certainly alerted crews to altimeter setting errors ahead of a GPWS callout but automatic calls as a rad alt becomes live and at subsequent thresholds are, in my view, more reliable.--Ed.Pooley 14:41, 24 January 2008 (CET)
