Quick Reference Handbook (QRH)

It might be helpful to include the well-used abbreviation "QRH" in this entry as this has international useage even outside english language operating environments. Perhaps also mention alternative names given to this critical 'tool' for flight crew, for example 'Emergency and Abnormal Checklist' (EAC).

It would also be helpful to clarify that a conventional flight crew QRH only contains Emergency and Abnormal procedure Check Lists taken from the Operations Manual, it does not also other include other procedural text since it would thereby become too big for convenient rapid-access stowage and easy use by pilots in the flight deck.--Ed.Pooley 12:52, 14 January 2008 (CET)

Editorial Comment

As far as I know, the contents of a QRH is not defined anywhere - it is up to the operator. I recall an airline where the Manufacturer's Operations Manual was used and as it was totally impractical to use it in flight, the QRH was a handbook containing useful extracts from the OM, but not the EAC; the EAC was a seperate document. But that was 15 years ago, perhaps thingshave changed since then.

curent airline practice

In my (current) experience, it is normal for Operators to issue personal copies of relevant volumes of the Company Operations Manual (if JAR-OPS this is usually Part A and Part B-Type)to all pilots. These are intended for home reference but are kept up to date. I have never heard of personal QRH copies being individually issued and I cannot see any point in it. What is vital is that every aircraft carries a flight deck QRH copy for each pilot - and of course that this, along with the rest of the aircraft library, is always promptly updated. It is worth noting that there are sometimes minor variations for the QRH procedures on variants of the same aircraft type, which makes it essential to carry the correct QRH copies with the aircraft and absolutely precludes operational reliance on any 'generic' copies issued personally to pilots, who in any case are not expected to carry around duplicate copies of items which have to be in the aircraft library.--John.Milner 13:03, 8 February 2008 (CET)
