Very major DC-10 conversion fitted with a two-crew MD-11 flight deck and with MD-11 landing gear, tyres and brakes. MD-10-10F and the MD-10-30F.

The MD-10 is retrofit cockpit upgrade to the DC-10 and a re-designation to MD-10. The upgrade included an Advanced Common Flightdeck (ACF) used on the MD-11. The new cockpit eliminated the need for the flight engineer position and allowed common type rating with the MD-11. The MD-10 conversion now falls under the Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) program where Boeing's international affiliate companies perform the conversions.

The MTOM of aircraft converted through the MD-10 program increases as follows:

 • DC-10 Series 10: 202,304 kg446,003.975 lbs
202.304 tonnes
with a payload of 65,091 kg143,501.091 lbs
65.091 tonnes
for a non-stop range of approximately 2,000 nm3,704,000 m
3,704 km
12,152,230.98 ft
;

Accidents & Serious Incidents involving MD10

 • MD10, Fort Lauderdale FL USA, 2017 (On 28 October 2017 the left main landing gear of an MD10-10F that had just touched down at Fort Lauderdale collapsed which led to the aircraft departing the side of the runway and catching fire. The Investigation found that the collapse had occurred because of metal fatigue which had developed in the absence of protective plating on part of the leg assembly. The reason for this could not be determined but it was noted that had the aircraft operator’s component overhaul interval not been longer than the corresponding manufacturer recommendation then the collapse would probably not have occurred.)
 • MD10, en-route, Raymond PA USA, 2008 (On 14 June 2008, a Boeing MD-10 being operated by Federal Express on a non-scheduled cargo flight from Memphis to New York JFK experienced a period of aerodynamic buffet during descent from FL320 to FL290 in an en route holding pattern near Raymond in day VMC. None of the three occupants were injured and the flight was completed without further event but a post flight inspection found that substantial damage had been caused to both elevators and to the right horizontal stabiliser.)

Editor's note: The ICAO designator of this aircraft remains DC10. As the MD10 is such a major conversion from a DC10, the MD10 was added as a separate aircraft. MD10 is not an official ICAO code.
