Background
This safety enhancement is aimed at reducing the risk of runway incursions by ensuring thorough training of basic air traffic control skills, resource management skills, situational awareness, and teamwork through the use of high-fidelity tower simulators, memory aids, On-the-Job Training (OJT), and Computer-Based Instruction (CBI).

The Runway Safety Program has worked with the FAA Academy’s Terminal Training Department to develop a one-hour training module that was included in the initial terminal training program. The module incorporated runway safety terms, examples of some runway incursions and scenarios for discussion.
