A worldwide position, velocity, and time determination system, that include one or more satellite constellations, receivers, and system integrity monitoring, augmented as necessary to support the required navigation performance for the actual phase of operation. (EUROCONTROL)
Three implementations of GNSS are currently in existence or under development. These are:
- USA: Global Positioning System (GPS);
- European Union: GALILEO;
- Russia: Global Orbiting Navigation System (GLONASS).
Currently, the US GPS and the Russian GLONASS systems are operational. Full completion of the Galileo system is expected by 2019.
